Tech of tomorrow

Port San Antonio is one of the highlights of San Antonio Technology
Port San Antonio is a 1900 acre aerospace international logistics platform that is just one of the many highlights in San Antonio Tech.

Soon gamers will be battling it out in video-game tournaments amongst a series of huge screens at Port San Antonio. While this occurs there will be race drones and robots weaving in and out of obstacle courses in this soon-to-be “tech central”. We’d think San Antonio might be more like A.I. in the future than Blade Runner.

Though this proposed “Innovation Center” which is spear-headed by Jim Pershbach, the President and CEO of The Port still needs financial backers to become a full-fledged reality. However, in spite of that, the fact that this project is even in consideration is just one of many indicators that tech is trending in the “Alamo City’s” favor.

Jobs. Jobs. And more jobs.

San Antonio’s tech job growth in the next five years will be well above the national average, according to a report released by SA Works. SA Works is known as the workforce hand of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. At the moment San Antonio is number 2 in the nation behind Washington D.C. with regards to jobs in tech.

Around 30 area businesses were surveyed by SA Works in which they project through thousands of job postings, an 18.5 percent increase in the number of new jobs for application software developers in San Antonio from 2017 to 2022. Those numbers in comparison to the rest of the U.S. is around an 18 percent increase nationwide. Some of the most active companies looking for those sharpened skills in Information Technology include Oracle, Rackspace, USAA, Accenture, Lockeed Martin, iHeartMedia Inc. oh and of course us: Def-Logix.

System software developer jobs are also expected to see a nice jump as well, based on the report there will be roughly a 13.9 percent increase in the next five years, compared to 8.4 percent in the nation.

Information security analysts can also be added to the list as well as the report projects around an 18.3 percent spike during the same time frame while increasing about 16.4 in the United States.

If the fact that there will be a plentiful amount of jobs for those entering in the realm of IT wasn’t enticing enough. Well annual salaries are looking WAY better than marginally modest too. Annual salaries for those jobs range from $87,000 to $98,400 in the San Antonio market. It pays to be in IT, even for those getting their foot in the door.

San Antonio has seen a recent economic boom thanks in large part to its’ demand for workers and very cost-efficient way of living. The average monthly rent for a 900 square foot accommodation is well below most other metro areas that rank in the top 10 most populated cities (San Antonio sits at number 7 in population). The average rent for a said place, a modest $1,010. We will take that.

Why people love to call San Antonio home!

San Antonio is also know for its great cuisine, family fun recreation such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Seaworld along with the beautiful Riverwalk which is growing. Add in a warmer climate for most of the year and it is easy to see why many are making the move to San Antonio.

For the younger IT crowd—one can even make a 1 hour drive to Austin, Texas, the “music capital” of the world and enjoy what “makes Austin weird”. All while not having to worry about paying the rising rental cost of actually living in Austin.

So if you are an IT professional looking to get your start or are a seasoned pro there is much good reason to consider the Alamo City your next home. It truly is a city of the future.
